The Challenge

LearningCrypto.com is an educational platform focused on helping readers understand cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and digital assets. As the publication grew, the team wanted to expand membership options beyond traditional payment processors.

Their existing setup relied heavily on Stripe for paid memberships. While Stripe works well for many publishers, it presented limitations for a business serving a global audience interested in cryptocurrency. Some users preferred paying with digital assets, while others encountered payment restrictions based on their location or banking infrastructure.

The team approached Inoryum with two primary goals:

• Integrate Mamopay as an alternative payment gateway.

The challenge was that Ghost's membership system is primarily designed around Stripe. External payment providers do not automatically create, update, or manage member accounts inside Ghost. A custom solution was required to bridge that gap.

Understanding the Problem

At first glance, accepting payments from another provider may seem straightforward. The reality is considerably more complex.

When someone purchases a membership through an external payment platform, several actions must happen behind the scenes:

1. The payment provider confirms the payment.
2. The user's membership status must be verified.
3. A member account must be created or updated in Ghost.
4. Access levels must be assigned correctly.
5. Expiration dates must be tracked.
6. Failed or cancelled subscriptions must be handled automatically.

Without automation, every membership would require manual intervention from the publishing team.

For a growing publication, that approach simply isn't sustainable.

The Solution

To solve the problem, we developed a custom middleware application that acts as a bridge between LearningCrypto's payment systems and Ghost.

Rather than modifying Ghost itself, the middleware operates independently and communicates with both the payment providers and Ghost's Admin API.

Payment Processing Layer

The middleware listens for payment events from Mamopay and the cryptocurrency payment system.

Whenever a payment is completed, the application receives a secure notification and validates the transaction before taking any action.

This ensures that only legitimate payments result in membership access.

Automated Member Provisioning

Once a payment is verified, the middleware automatically:

• Creates a new Ghost member if one does not already exist.
• Updates existing member accounts.

The entire process happens without any manual administration.
